FAQs
Here are the answers to questions we are frequently asked about the project.
-
It’ll take a few years to raise the funds and get the permissions required to enable us to restore the bridge and open it to community use.
We’re working towards an opening date in 2026.

The feasibility study indicated that the work that would be required on the access and the bridge itself would cost in the region of £3 million.
The bridge itself is structurally sound and the bulk of the costs are for creating the access to the bridge on the Richmond and Hounslow sides of the river.
-
The bridge will be accessible to wheelchairs and buggies on both sides of the river.
If you access the bridge at Barnes there’ll be a new walkway, near the current staircase, on the south side of Barnes Bridge station to enable visitors to get on to the bridge and on to the station platform (trains towards Hounslow).
On the Hounslow side of the river there’ll be a new walkway which connects the footbridge on the towpath with our new bridge.
